In 1858 this home was built for Silas Farber an early resident of Louisiana.

Silas Farber was born 1817 in Ohio.  The first mention of him in Louisiana’s history is February 13, 1847 when he was appointed a committee charged with drafting a constitution and by-laws for the Library project. 1   April 1852 Silas was appointed superintendent over the project to construct a 17 mile plank toll road between Louisiana and Ashley, including toll-houses, bridges, etc. 2   The town of Farber, Missouri was laid off in 1872 by Silas Farber. 3

February 27, 1840 Silas marries Mrs. Elizabeth Burbridge, the widow of Benjamin Burbridge in Pike County, Missouri.

John W Allen, blacksmith was listed as the resident of 400 N Main street in the 1875 and 1892 Louisiana City Directories.
