Abraham Wald Home

The 1875 directory finds Abraham and Hanna Wald living with their children Louis, Adam, David and Bertha in this residence. Their sons Adam, David and Louis have two businesses in Louisiana at that time. Wald & Bros which sells clothing, gents furnishings, hats etc. is located at 301 Georgia Street. Their other store Wald Bros deals in hides, furs and wool is housed at the southwest corner of Georgia Street and 7th street. The directory states that David Wald was living in Macomb, Illinois at the time of the 1875 directory.

Gottfried and Sallie Goodman Becker are the residents listed in the 1892 and 1903 directories. Gottfried was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1844 to Peter and Elizabetha Scherer Becker. He married Sallie Goodman (1852-1938). Their children were Elizabeth Mary 1877-1881, John 1880-1953, Frank Joseph 1881-1926, Mamie 1883-1920, George William 1885-1951 and Emma Francis 1856-1888. Gottfried was a saloon keeper at 403 Georgia Street until his death in 1902.

1906 directory states that William T. and Mattie Prettyman are the residents of 622 North Carolina Street. Mr. Prettyman is a barber at 222 Georgia Street.

Frank D and May M Ransom are the 1911 residents per the city directory of that year. Frank is employed as an engineer for the Burlington railroad. Their children Galen F, and Peachie are working for Starks nursery.

Dr. WR and Jeanette Hardin are the residents per the 1928 telephone book. Dr. Hardin a life long resident of Louisiana passes away in December 1933. His widow Jeanette continues to live in the home through at least 1944 where we see her listed at this address in the phone book for that year.
